MIXED MEDIA

I took this photograph just off of old Route 66 near the CA/AZ border. It is printed in color on clear acrylic, which is placed over a plastic orange theater-light gel. A white piece of paper has been placed behind the artwork in this picture to simulate the effect of what it looks like when hanging on a white wall (when viewed in person it gives a neat 3-D type effect.) The border is made of several photocopies of the photograph which I cut into strips and wrapped around matteboard, then coated with a wash of brown acrylic and a layer of clear acrylic. I made the wooden frame by hand and used a soldering iron to burn the words onto the sides. There is a piece of glass that slides over the front but it has been removed to facilitate this photo of the artwork.
